Use this procedure when a check is returned from your bank due to Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF).
Note: This only applies to a deposited receipt.
Go to Accounting > Accounts Receivable > Receipts. Locate the receipt and open it, and then click the Edit (
) icon.
Click the NSF button.
A popup window appears.
If your bank charges you a fee for a returned check, enter it here. Breeze will create a journal entry to record the fee.
If you charge the tenant a fee, enter it as the Payer Fee and Breeze will create a charge for the amount.
Click Save. The receipt is now marked "Non-Sufficient Funds."
Adding Notes to an NSF Receipt Record
After you post the NSF, you can no longer edit the Notes field on the Receipt screen, but you can use the Activity Feed to add extra information to the record.
Behind the Scenes
Breeze creates a negative receipt to offset the original receipt. The original charge is now unpaid.
On the tenant ledger, you can see the original receipt, the negative receipt, and the NSF fee (starting from the bottom).
Charge Code and GL Account for NSF
There are default settings for the NSF function on the Account Settings tab of the Company Settings screen.
