How do I reverse a journal entry?

Updated over 2 months ago

There are two reasons for reversing journal entries:

  • To correct mistakes in posted journal entries.

  • To book something one month and back it out the next.

In this article we'll show how to reverse a journal entry manually.

Reconciled journals cannot be deleted – you can only reverse them. Unreconciled journals can be deleted or reversed, but for audit purposes, it is better to reverse them.

To reverse a journal entry

Go to Accounting > General Ledger > Journals.

Locate the journal you want to reverse and open it.

Click the Reverse button.

A popup opens.

Complete the popup and click OK.

Breeze reverses the journal, and displays a "reversed by" message at the top of the screen.

The message is a link to the reversal, shown below.

The reversal has a link back to the original JE.

Activity Feed

If you open the Activity Feed on the original journal, you can see that it was reversed.
