Accessibility: Support for Alt Text for Images

Updated over 2 months ago

Introduction

Alternative text (alt text) describes an image on a web page. For the visually impaired, it is read aloud by screen reader software. If the image does not load in the browser, the alt text appears on the page. It is also indexed by search engines.

In Breeze, when you add property images to be used in RentCafe, you can add alt text. Breeze also supports:

  • Image titles: text that appears when you hover over an image.

  • Image captions: text that appears below an image.

Note: Support for alt text was added in December 2021. If you set up properties before then, you can go back to the property records and add alt text for images.

How do I add alt text to images in Breeze?

After you upload an image, you can add alt text to it.

Images are loaded on the Photos tab of a property record.

After uploading an image, click the Edit Attributes icon.

The Image Attributes screen appears.

Complete the screen.

Alt Text

Text that appears if the browser cannot display the image.

For the visually impaired, the screen reader reads the alt text outloud. The text is also indexed by search engines.

Title

Text that appears in a popup when you pause your mouse cursor on the image.

Caption

Text that appears under the image.

Click Save.

Go to the RentCafe tab. Click the Edit icon (the pencil) and then click Sync Photos.

Results of entering alt text and titles

On RentCafe, when you hover over the image, the title appears.

If the image fails to load in your browser, the alt text appears.

If you have screen reader software for the visually impaired, it will read the alt text out loud.
