This article is intended for property managers; its purpose is to help answer questions you might receive from applicants. To do this, we show the process from the applicant's perspective. You can print out this article and hand it to them, or you can print it as a PDF and email it to them.
ID Verify is a RentCafe feature that validates the identity of online applicants. After an applicant selects a unit, they are asked to submit a photo of their ID, passport, or driver’s license, either directly on the computer or through their phone. Then they take a selfie and submit it. The system validates one against the other: if the selfie and the photo on the ID are a match, they are validated and can continue with the application.

Getting Started
In the online leasing workflow, Identity Verification appears as step 3, after you select a unit and rental options.
When you reach this step, the ID Verify screen appears.
To get started, click Begin Verification.
The Start verification screen appears.
Get your ID ready and click Start.
The next screen appears.
Choose a country and an ID type.
The next screen appears.
Choose an upload method.
If you select Take photo using webcam, the next screen in this procedure (Step 1) will appear on your computer or iPad.
If you select Continue on mobile, the next screen gives you two options: Send link by email or Scan QR Code. Select one.
If you select the email option, open the email message from ID Verify on your phone and click the link.
If you select the QR Code option, use your phone to scan the QR code.
In both cases, the next screen in this procedure (Step 1), will appear on your phone.
Step 1: Front of ID
In step 1, you take a picture of the front of the ID. Click Start to take the picture.
After you take a picture, the system asks you to check it.
Click Confirm to continue.
Step 2: Back of ID
In Step 2 of 3, you take a picture of the back of the ID.
When you are done, you are asked to confirm it.
Note: If you are using a passport to verify your identity, there are only two steps: taking a picture of the main page of the passport and then taking a selfie. It is not necessary to take a picture of the back of the document.
Step 3: Selfie
In Step 3 of 3, you are asked to take a selfie.
When you are done, you are asked to confirm it.
After you confirm it, the system reviews your ID.
Success
Once the system has successfully verified your ID, click Next Step to return to the applicant workflow in RentCafe.
